Our Management Team

Lance Sparling, President
Lance completed his first year of university at UBC in 1973, before choosing to join his family business.  He worked with his father for ten years before purchasing the business from his family.  After another ten years of building Spar Group into a $40M manufacturing and marketing business with 500 employees, Lance sold it to pursue other interests in 1993.

Since selling Spar Group in1993, Lance has pursued many investment, real estate and entrepreneurial interests. He spent 5 Years co-founding ViRTUS www.virtusinc.com and recently sold his interest(s) to his Partners to pursue his passion in Real Estate Development. Lance has been involved at many different levels of Real Estate Development since 1983 when he bought his first home. His primary focus for the next 10 years is to build a Construction Company on the Sunshine Coast.

Lance was a YPO (Young Presidents Organization) member for sixteen years and since graduating in June of 2004 (he did turn 50), he is now a member of WPO (World Presidents Organization). He has experience with The Executive Committee (TEC), and was a C.A.F.E. (Canadian Association of Family Enterprise) member for over 10 years. He has held a variety of executive positions with these organizations and was a Director of the C.H.H.M.A (Canadian Hardware Housewares Manufacturers Association).  He is a Founding Director of the Coast Community Builders Assocation (CCBA) and is currently the Vice President.

Lance has been married to his wife Terry for twenty-six years and they have three children.  The eldest Reid and Alexandra have graduated from the University of Victoria and their youngest Dean is currently in his second year at Camosun College.  Lance and Terry are active members of The Capilano Golf and Country Club, Hollyburn Country Club and RVYC.  Personally, Lance has been an active athlete in many sports.  He has completed 2 Vancouver Marathons and 3 Olympic length Triathlons.  He has also completed the 2005 Canadian Ironman Triathlon in Penticton and the 2007 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.  Terry is active in tennis and golf.  She was a professional singer and dancer up until she married Lance. Today she has a passion for Interior Design, Pranic Healing (Alternative Healing) and returning to the local stage.

Besides his great depth of business experience Lance brings joyful and fun-filled energy to whatever he chooses to accomplish.  One of Lance’s major passions is assisting people to become more successful in their personal and business lives.  You can count on Lance to treat you with respect, empathy, directness and a confidence that you can have what you want in life-should you choose to take the assignment.


Ray Dierolf, Business Development

Ray has been in the construction field a total of 20 years, working on a wide variety of commercial and residential projects in the Vancouver and Sunshine Coast areas.

Ray has worked for general contractors and developers and operated his own construction company. He has received his Journeyman Carpentry Ticket, as well as his Certified Green Roof Installation and "Built Green" certification and has attended many Rain Screen courses. His strength lies in wood framing post and beam and concrete construction.

Ray is an active volunteer for the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association. He has been in a supervisory role with the construction of the Sunshine Coast Regional District office, Holy Family Catholic Church, Sechelt Public Library, TD Bank, Starbucks, Wakefield Beach and many of the high profile custom homes on the Sunshine Coast.


Debra Davidson-Mladek, Construction Executive
Debra’s involvement in the field of construction and construction management, reaches back for over 18 years, starting with her position as Administration/ Financial/Office Manager for Bradner Homes Ltd; a prominent West Vancouver builder. She held this position for 16 years, increasing her knowledge & respect in the construction sector.

Two years ago, Debra & her husband had the opportunity to relocate to the beautiful Okanagan, where she joined the team of Edgecombe Builders, as their Project Coordinator.

Debra was approached by Wakefield Home Builders in 2009 to join the team as their Construction Executive/Finance & Administration Manager, where she is enjoying her position and looking forward expanding her construction knowledge, management and leadership skills.

Together with her husband Andreas a prominent Glass Artist; they have relocated and now reside in beautiful Gibsons with their 2 cats & new puppy Lucca. They look forward to many years on the Sunshine Coast enjoying the coastal lifestyle with family & friends.


Steve Stevenson, Construction Manager
Steve has been a life time resident of the Sunshine Coast.  He has a degree in Geography from the University of Victoria with an emphasis on environmental studies, and urban infrastructure/social planning.  His experience within the trades spans eight years and is varied and well rounded, with expertise in both residential and commercial construction.

His career began on large scale condominium projects in Victoria, and evolved to high end custom home building on the Sunshine Coast.  Steve excels at developing and maintaining working relationships with all construction sub-trades.  He also has the ability to organize and co-ordinate construction related activities, peoples and materials on both large and small scale projects.

Steve’s goal within the company is to ensure that current and future development on the Sunshine Coast carries on in an efficient, professional and concise manner- with green building practices at the forefront.

Jay Harris, Construction Supervisor
Jay & his family moved to the Sunshine Coast three years ago. He received his education as a General Carpenter at Georgian College in Ontario where he graduated with honors. He trained in the art of custom home building in the Whistler/ Pemberton area under the guidance of Graham Murphy  (Murphy Corp.) of Liverpool, England and Andrew Howell (Aussie) of Howell Holdings Ltd. Jay believes the art of home building is efficiency, accountability, quality and a passion for what we create.


Don Goodall, Construction Supervisor
Don moved to the Sunshine coast in 2007 after falling in love with the area while project managing a custom waterfront home. After studying architectural drafting at school in Ottawa, Don was lured to the coast mountains by memories of a ski trip to Whistler mountain he had taken during high school. Three decades in Whistler taught Don the value of customer service, something he still cares deeply about today. He honed his homebuilding skills learning from some of the best craftsmen and tradespeople in Whistler, working with award winning Builders Munster and sons developments, Vision Pacific and the last ten years as a self employed associate of Boyle and Associates, respected Whistler builders.

Don, a certified green builder brings to the table a dedication to detail, quality, service, green building ethics and a unique ability to get on with everyone, even in the toughest situations.

Don is married to Susie, herself an international interior designer. They have a very sociable westie named Daisy who along with Susie are the center of his world. His passions include skiing, windsurfing and mountain biking as well as everything related to the future homebuilding.

Craig Irwin, Construction Supervisor
Originally from Don Mills, Ontario, Craig began his career in construction over 25 years ago and has experience managing projects from design concept to completion.

With his strength in design conceptualization and construction techniques, he has managed wide variety of more than 35 homes, ranging from $100k to $10M. He oversees timelines and trade coordination, and provides good-natured leadership to on-site construction staff.

Craig has called the Sunshine Coast home for 20 years. He lives with his wife Gioia, and enjoys spending time with his daughter, two stepsons, and two grandchildren. His other hobbies include playing hockey and hiking around the beautiful Coast Mountains.

Brad Robinson, Construction Supervisor
Brad grew up in the Lower mainland, where he started his career at an early age, working for his dad, George, from whom he learned his trade. He attained his Journeyman Carpentry Ticket in 1978 and three years later, moved his young family up to the Sunshine Coast. He continued to gain a varied experience in the construction industry in commercial and multi-family building, but predominantly in custom home building where he has enjoyed an excellent reputation, with customers as well as sub-trades.
Brad has a keen interested in classic muscle cars, which led him to become involved in drag racing as founding member and past vice-president of the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Assn.

Brad’s goal with respects to the company is to bring his knowledge and experience to the company to further help maintain the level of professionalism.

Brad and his wife Shelley, who recently became empty nesters, are happily residing in Davis Bay.


Andrew Bate, Site Foreman
andrewAndrew brings over 12 years of experience in the construction industry.  He has worked on a broad range of renovation projects in Vancouver and on the Sunshine Coast.

From major additions to energy efficiency upgrades, Andrew works closely with clients to understand their vision and then translates this into an achievable work plan.  He has developed a clear understanding of grants and tax incentive programs available for clients.  As an experienced carpenter, Andrew can provide practical design ideas that are green, functional, and aesthetically beautiful.   

Andrew has a great working relationship with other industry trades.  He can quickly bring together a dedicated team of electricians, plumbers and specialty trades to provide a seamless work program.

Andrew lives with his wife and two children in Roberts Creek.  As a soccer dad and musician, he is actively involved in the community.


Dan Olsen
, Construction Supervisor

danDan has been building custom homes on the Sunshine Coast for over 10 years, where he has had the opportunity to work with many exceptional carpenters.  Before joining the team at Wakefield Homes, Dan had owned his own construction company for several years.  Wakefield Homes has given him the opportunity to expand his knowledge by working on some amazing projects such as the Wakefield Beach Development.

Dan is a big supporter of the Built Smart practices and has completed several courses in this area.  He hopes by doing so that he can ensure quality, efficient and clean work within the home in which he builds.  Dan believes in creating a better future for the community with efficient and green building practices, this will ensure a cleaner future for our society.

Dan is married to his loving wife Candace and has a beautiful new baby girl named Brooke.  Dan is also a lieutenant with the Halfmoon Bay Fire Department.  As well, he enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, exploring the beautiful Sunshine Coast in his kayak.  He is also an avid runner; you might even spot him running up and down the coast.

Liz Down, Financial Administrator
Prior to joining Wakefield Homes in 2004, Liz was no stranger to construction. She was “hands on” in the building of her first home in 1984 including the hand splitting of shakes! Most recently Liz & her husband designed and built a carriage house in 2003 and their new home in 2007 – all were owner/builder projects. In addition, Liz brings a combination of 19 years in both Business and Personal banking and 9 years as the General Manager of a Wholesale Company. She has brought a wealth of financial and professional experience to the team.

Liz is a passionate gardener and loves to paddle when time permits. An active volunteer in the community, Liz and her husband Pete live in Halfmoon Bay.


Allison Duncan, Administrative | HR Assistant
Allison’s real estate experience began in Ottawa approximately eight years ago with administrative and financial roles in both property management and property development. She moved to the West Coast in 2007, and has since gained experience in new business marketing with Colliers International.

When not in the office, Allison can often be found outside enjoying our local Sunshine Coast Mountains with her fiancé Gord.
